The firm was founded by Briana Gowen, CFA in 2015. Briana brings a combination of institutional real estate investment experience, development strategy, and formal training in real estate finance, land use, and urban development. Briana holds an MBA from IESE Business School, an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, and a Master’s in Real Estate from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where her work focused on sustainable development, finance, urban design, land use, zoning, project and construction management, and negotiated entitlements. Briana has been a CFA charterholder since 2012. Before founding Zilla Companies, she worked in real estate private equity as a portfolio manager, evaluating investments, underwriting risk, and identifying value creation opportunities across real estate assets. That background continues to shape the firm’s approach today: not just understanding what the code says, but identifying how zoning, overlays, incentives, density, and site constraints affect value, feasibility, and decision-making.
